A lecturer with Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Dr. Matthew Uwaigbe, has reportedly died after an encounter with a 21-year-old woman at a hotel in Ekpoma.
The incident occurred on Sunday, October 5, 2026, at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of the state.
According to information gathered, Uwaigbe had checked into the hotel with the woman, identified as Angela Defa Jacob.
After the pair reportedly had a sexual encounter, Uwaigbe was said to have asked Jacob to leave the room to get him some water.
Jacob reportedly stepped out and returned shortly afterwards, only to find the lecturer lying motionless on the bed.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police at about 8pm.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying the deceased had lodged at the hotel and engaged the services of the 21-year-old woman before his sudden death.
The police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said Jacob had been sent out to purchase water and returned to find Uwaigbe dead.
The circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s death remain under investigation.
Meanwhile, Ambrose Alli University confirmed that Uwaigbe was a member of its academic staff but distanced the institution from the incident.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, said the incident did not occur on the university premises.
He described the circumstances surrounding Uwaigbe’s activities as a matter concerning his private life, stressing that the woman involved was not a student of the university.
