Three members of a local vigilante group named "Yaluwon" operating in Ijebu-Igbo, have been arrested by officers of the Ogun State Police Command, over the alleged killing of a student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who explained that the gruesome murder of the 24 year old 400 level student, Ahmed Obisanwo was reported by his father, Surakat Obisanwo, in a petition to the Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama.
According to the statement, "the three suspects Idowu Ayodele ‘m’ a.k.a Olori Odo, Segun Ogunbanwo a.k.a Kikisore and Salisu Akeem ‘m’ were arrested following a petition by the father of the victim, One Surakat Obisanwo who complained that his son Ahmed Obisanwo and one of his friends were arrested on the 8th of august, 2019 at Ijebu-Igbo by the local security outfit on the allegation that the two friends were members of the Eiye cult group.
The statement reads that the security men claimed that they had taken the arrested victims to Ijebu-Igbo police station but enquiries made by the father at the police station revealed that the boys were never brought there.
"Since then, the whereabout of Ahmed Obisanwo has remained unknown".
The Police PRO said it was on the strength of the petition, that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama directed the Ant-cult section of the Police, to investigate and unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of the victim.
DSP Oyeyemi said, the team embarked on technical and forensic investigations through which it was discovered that the two boys were never at any time taken to the police station but instead the security men were alleged to have released one of them and killed the other one who happened to be the son of the petitioner.
"After killing him, they stripped his corpse naked before throwing it into Osun river, for it to flow freely into the lagoon".
He said, items recovered from the suspected murders include four locally made double barrel guns, Ten live cartridges, One iron axe, One native dagger and One jacket with security inscription on it.
DSP Oyeyemi who assured that the culprits would be duly brought to book said efforts are in top gear to apprehend other members of the group connected to the murder case.
