Concerned authorities in Nigeria have been called upon to ensure thorough investigation and Open Justice, on the recent invasion of Imasayi Township in Ogun State, by officers of the Joint Task Force.
The Imasayi Descendants Association Abroad, comprising Imasayi people in the United Kingdom, North America and other European Countries made this call, in a press statement signed by its President Dr Toye Moses and its secretary Mr Tunde Elegbede, while reacting to the military invasion which led to loss of lives and properties .
The Imasayi Descendants Association Abroad, while urging government to protect the fundamental rights and dignity of its people said, "Imasayi people do not harbour criminals and those found culpable should be punished for their crimes while innocent people of the town should not be intimidated or harrased as they go about their daily activities".
According to the statement, " authorities concerned should conduct their investigations with respect to the fundamental human rights of the people of Imasayi and our dignity. We also call on them not to intimidate and harass the innocent people of the town as they go about their daily lives."
"We implore the authorities to leave no stone unturned and deliver true, swift and open justice in their investigations in the alleged crime that led to the invasion. We the people of Imasayi believe in justice, law and order. Anyone found responsible and complicit in the breaking of the law and in committing the ultimate crime of homicide should be dealt with the utmost power of the law."
The Association commiserated with the families of those whose lives were untimely cut short during the ugly incident between the military and the people of Imasayi.
It also expressed gratitude to the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, the Olu of Imasayi, Kabiyesi Adesola Oni, Senator Tolu Odebiyi and others for their momentous roles in bringing a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
Chief Segun Oni, a former governor of Ekiti and also former National Deputy Chairman of APC, on Monday confirmed that he was dumping the party to rejoin the PDP.
Oni, who was suspended by the APC for anti-party activities since May 2019, spoke to journalists in Ado Ekiti.
The 65 year-old politician claimed he was leaving the APC due to ill-treatment and lack of respect for his person by the party.
He also alleged that he was shabbily treated by the APC, adding that he and his supporters were ostracised from all engagements including appointments and privileges to contest elections.
Oni, however, did not give the actual date he would formally defect to the PDP. Oni was elected governor of the state in 2007, but the victory was challenged by Kayode Fayemi, then of the Action Congress. The case dragged for several years, with elections ordered to be re-run in some LGAs by the courts. Eventually in 2010, the Appeal Court ordered Oni to vacate the seat for Fayemi.
Both Oni and Fayemi contested for the APC ticket two years ago. After losing the primary to Fayemi, Oni took Fayemi to court, alleging that Fayemi was not qualified to contest, having failed to resign his ministerial position. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court. Oni lost the case.
Oni said he had already started meeting with critical stakeholders in the PDP such as former Gov. Ayodele Fayose and Sen. Biodun Olujimi about his resolve to return to his former party.
According to him, the need to take the decision to return to the PDP became imperative as a way of acceding to the request of his loyalists desirous of taking the hard political step.
” You all knew the kind of treatment I have been getting so far. As we speak, none of my supporters was being allowed to get appointment or contest elections in APC.
” Even if the APC gives me the whole world, I won’t be happy seeing integral part of my political life, I mean my supporters being treated badly as we have come to find it
” You can imagine, at a particular time, I was suspended in my Ward at Ifaki Ekiti and nothing was said about it.
” Apart from politics, I am the Asiwaju, a high title holder in my town; if someone can have the effrontery to do that to me here, you can see it has sent a signal that there is a problem.
” It’s not about Segun Oni, my people and supporters are the main issue.I can confirm to you that we have taken a decision and we are in the process of joining the PDP.
”We are going to set up implementation committee to work on our programme of actions. Our joining PDP is not something that will take three months. I am not that kind of a politician that will rush at things, we can’t just go back that way.
” There must be proper planning. We are carrying out local government by local government counting of those that will follow us.
” I am not alone in this. Those who took the action for me were my supporters across all the local governments areas and 177 wards who feel bad about the whole scenario in APC. But the major thing is that we are moving, we have taken a decision to go back and on that we are working on,” he said

Pastor Chris Okafor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, aka Liberation City, Ojodu Berger, Lagos has dissociated himself from claims of performing fake miracle on a woman, Bose Olasunkanmi, alleged to have been paid for the purpose.
Five pastors, including Pastor Okafor, were alleged to have paid and used same woman with disfigured arm to perform similar fake miracle.
The news of the fake miracle supposedly performed on the woman with disfigured hand trended on the social media and some national dailies recently.
Pastor Okafor, while addressing reporters in Lagos on Monday through his couansel, Monday Ubani, denied claims that the woman was paid N400,000 for the miracle.
He maintained that the money given to the woman was to empower her start a new life.
According to the pastor, “The recent story in a national daily and online platforms that the sum of N400, 000 was paid to her for a fake miracle is not true.
“The lady in question came to church like every other person and the said programme through which she was healed was shown on a live television and there was nothing to hide because it was not only the woman that was healed.
“The church is not new, it’s been in existence over 10 years and the members who keep increasing have experienced the touch of God one way or the other. So there was no issue of arranging any miracle to anybody”, he said.
On the money paid to the woman, Pastor Okafor said when the news broke, it was discovered that the woman had been going to other churches and that when confronted, she said it was poverty that made her do it and because she is a widow.

Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has urged the Lagos State Government and Federal Government to conduct a thorough investigation of the Sunday explosion in the Abule Ado area of Lagos State to determine what really happened.
The OPC leader who is also the immediate past chairman of the community development association of the affected area visited the scene to inspect the level of damage in the area on Monday.
Adams while addressing journalists said the explosion is beyond pipeline accident, describing the level of damage as a “collateral and devastating loss, which is similar to that of Syria and Iraq.
In his words, “I have a house here and I lived here for 15 years before I left for Omole Phase 11. What happened here is serious collateral damages, it’s devastating.
“What happened here we can compare it to what happened in Syria or Iraq,” he said.
“The governor of the state has been here this morning (Monday) and he has done the right thing by moving the sum of 2billion naira to compensate those who are victims. But I will appeal to the state government and federal government to do a thorough investigation of the incident in this area because I don’t believe it is from a pipeline explosion.
“I have lived here for 15 years, I have witnessed two episodes of that nature, it doesn’t shake the foundation of a house. The information at my disposal since yesterday was that when the blast came it affected Agbaara, from here to Agbaara, Surulere, and Badagry.
“So if anybody is trying to explain to us this is a pipeline explosion, you have to think twice before issuing that statement. I am suspecting something beyond that but the government has to give us the true information about what happened here,” he added.
Adams also sympathize with the victims of the accident and urged the government to give its citizens adequate information in case of future occurrences.
“The victims that died in this incident cannot be quantified. In the media yesterday, we read 15 but from this morning, it’s more than 50 and human life is precious. As a government, you have the right to protect life and property so you need to give us adequate information so that other areas can prepare in case something like that wants to reoccur.”
“I thank Lagos govt for responding quickly to the need of the people and giving them hope, although no amount can resolve what has happened here on Sunday, but for him coming here and even promised them that most of the damages will be taken care of. I think that’s the less hope we are still expecting.
“The most unfortunate part of it is that Elder Obi acting chairman of the landlord association died with his wife and two children and a lot of people were affected. This is unfortunate.”

The Lagos state government has confirmed a third case of coronavirus in the state.
Akin Abayomi, the state’s commissioner of health, disclosed this at a press conference, on Tuesday.
This development comes days after the state government confirmed that the second case was now free of the virus.

Police are holding a man who allegedly burnt three churches in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, has announced the death of his mother, Hauwau Oziohu.
In a statement on Monday, Bello said his mother died at the age of 101 after a brief illness.
Bello, who is said to be the youngest of six children, was born on June 18,1975. So his mother was 57 years at the time of his birth.
The 44-year-old governor said the matriarch will be buried on Monday in line with Islamic rites.

“With total submission to the will of Allah, on behalf of the family of Alhaji Bello Ipemida Ochi, we regret to announce the passing away of our matriarch, Hajia Hauwau Oziohu Bello who answered the call of Allah this evening after a brief illness,” he said.
“We are relieved that her passing was peaceful and painless. Her funeral will be held today at Her resident in Nagazi, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State in accordance with Islamic rites.
“Until her death, she was aged 101 and survived by children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many adopted children.”

But If he was born in June 1975, he would normally start his primary education in 1981 – as most of his age mates did. Pupils started primary school at five or six in the post-colonial era.
But the biography says he started his primary school in 1984 – which means he was at least three years behind schedule. By starting in 1984, he was nine years old, and would have been in class with his younger sibling had the parents not decided to make Yahaya the last born in a family of six.

The family of late Mr Christopher Olorunfunmi Banjo on Wednesday said they would soon announce the burial arrangements for the late businessman and philanthropist, who died recently in Lagos.
Banjo, Aare Bobaseye of Ijebu-Ilodo, passed on at the age of 77, at Ikeja General Hospital, Lagos, after a protracted illness.
Mr Niyi Banjo, who spoke on behalf of the family at the residence of the deceased, told journalists that they were still deliberating on how to give their departed father a befitting burial.
Banjo said the plans would soon be made public.
He noted that the departed Olorunfunmi Banjo was a great father, a devout Christian and a senior member of Anglican church of the Pentecost, Festac Town, Lagos, Church of the Ascension, Festac town, Lagos as well as Our Saviours Anglican Church, Ikenne, Ogun State.
According to him, "my dad lived a good life of service and he would be greatly missed for his philanthropy, fatherly advice and support to all".
It was a ground breaking operation for two medical graduates of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Bamidele Adebayo and Adetunbi Babatunde when they set a milestone record for successfully carrying out a 12 hour brain tumor surgery which was first of its kind in Ogun state.
The operation, which was conducted at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba in Abeokuta removed completely the tumor in a 57-year old transporter who reportedly has brain disorder due to self-medication.
It was gathered that the surgery which was led by the two neuro-surgeon consultants was a 12 hour marathon operation where series of brain tumors were removed from the patient.
Speaking with the two neuro-surgeon consultants after the successful operation of the brain, they described the experience as daunting, but, rewarding.
They added that the successful brain-open surgery was effected because of the facilities the hospital has provided for brain surgery operations.
The consultants however promised to do more of such operations in the nearest future, saying "the medical centre is a promising hospital for brain surgery operation".
According to Adebayo, "It is a daunting experience, but, also rewarding, daunting in the sense that being the first brain tumor surgery in this hospital, it took a lot of organization and jumping a lot of hurdles before we were able to achieve that".
“The fact that the theater staff are doing that for the very first time was a brilliant task, there were times we felt like oh why did we do this and all other issues were there, but, by and large we were able to get the tumor out".
“We were exhausted, but, we are happy that we were able to get the tumor out completely, and the patient has improved significantly after the surgery".
“The scan we did after the surgery showed that there is no little of the tumor in the brain, he is very fine, I feel happy and fulfilled".
“I will say that the MD, Prof. Musa Olomu is a very loving and caring person who has made a lot of changes in this hospital and I would say that this is a very promising hospital and we hope a lot of things will happen here since we are strategically located”.
Also, his partner, Adetunbi advised the people to restrain from self-medication and treatment.
He urged the public to always consult medical practitioners before taking drugs or injection when they are sick.
He said, “I would advise people to refrain from self-medication and self-treatment, they should try to see their general practitioner who will direct them to the appropriate specialist.
“It was a cool experience, we are used to it, we are used to 18, 24 hours operations, but, it is quite interesting in operating 12 hours in Abeokuta for the first time.
“We have actually been operating brain patient in Abeokuta, but, this will be the first brain tumor that would be done and it is quite interesting that it was done successfully.
“I feel good and I feel we can do more if we get more, I want the federal government to put more resources in treatment of patient so as to achieve best result.”
Meanwhile, the 57-year old transporter, Sunday Ogunkola commended the Neuro-surgeons and the management of FMC Abeokuta for ensuing that the tumor was removed from his brain.
Ogunkola claimed that self-medication and treatment led to the tumor, urging the people to desist from it.
He added, “I don’t know how I got here, but, I want to appreciate God for a successful operation. God used his hand through the surgeons to remove the turmoil from my brain and I commend the surgeons for a successful operation.
“You cannot be wiser than the medical practitioners, when you have problem with you brain, you must ensure you consult them.
“I am appealing to the people to desist from self-medication and treatment because the damages it is causing to our health might be beyond control”.
