Popular Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has revealed that her open support for President Bola Tinubu during the last election had consequences for her career.
The actress made the remark while advising fellow actor Timini Egbuson on strategies to help his movie perform well at the box office.
Offering candid advice, Toyin urged the actor to stay away from political endorsements.
“The first advice I will give you in my entire life is don’t put your mouth in politics. Don’t tell people you are supporting anyone. Don’t support anybody, just stay on your own. Be neutral,” she said.
When Timini reminded her that she openly campaigned for Tinubu during the previous election, the actress responded, “That was then.”
She later admitted that her political stance had negatively affected her work.
“Haaaaaaa, it affected me oooo,” she exclaimed.
In early 2024, Toyin had also raised concerns after her film Ijakumo (Born Again Stripper) was allegedly circulated illegally on WhatsApp shortly after its release.
At the time, she expressed frustration over criticism and calls from some social media users who vowed not to watch her movie because of her political support.
“You all will tell the world why choosing my own candidate is a crime and yours is not,” the actress said while reacting to the backlash.
