Nigerian music star Davido has said that taking up a government position would not stop him from continuing his career as an artiste, noting that he could still perform while serving in public office.
Speaking during a recent livestream with Davrel, the singer stated that even if he were to enter government, he would remain active in music, though with reduced frequency.
“If I ever decide to work in government, I would still be performing. I don’t think that stops anything,” he said, adding that former Haitian President Michel Martelly also continued performing while in office.
Davido referenced Martelly’s dual role as both a musician and president, noting that he still held performances and even went on tours during his presidency.
However, the Afrobeats star said he is no longer strongly inclined toward pursuing a political career, citing concerns based on his observations of entertainers who have transitioned into politics.
He said experiences of Nigerian celebrities who have ventured into governance have made him more cautious about political ambitions.
Davido added that while he was previously interested in politics, his current perspective has shifted due to what he described as realities on the ground.
