Veteran actor Jide Kosoko has explained why the family of ailing Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has been unable to accept the numerous offers of medical and spiritual assistance coming from concerned Nigerians.
Kosoko said the family has received offers from more than 300 and even over 500 people who believe they have medical or spiritual interventions that could help Hassan, who is reportedly battling stage-four cancer.
However, the veteran actor said accepting such offers would be difficult because Hassan is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
‘Where do we take him to?’
According to Kosoko, the major challenge is determining how the actor could be moved from the hospital without disrupting his ongoing treatment.
“The challenge is simply: Where do we take him to? And how do we move him from the hospital while he is receiving care?” he said.
Kosoko made the clarification in an Instagram post while thanking fans, colleagues and well-wishers for their prayers, encouragement and offers of assistance.
He appealed to those who have offered to help Hassan not to interpret the family’s inability to take the actor to them as rejection of their intentions.
“Please understand that our inability to bring him to anyone does not mean that we do not appreciate you, nor does it mean that we doubt your intentions or your desire to help,” Kosoko said.
He said the family had been deeply touched by the widespread concern for the actor.
“On the contrary, we are deeply touched by the overwhelming love and concern that people across the world have shown towards him.”
Kosoko urges continued prayers
The veteran actor also appealed to Nigerians to continue praying for Hassan, saying the family remains hopeful about his recovery.
“Please, continue to pray with us. We believe strongly that, with your prayers, our prayers, and the mercy of Almighty God, Taye will come out of this situation successfully. There is nothing impossible before Almighty God,” he wrote.
The development comes after some of Hassan’s colleagues, including Femi Adebayo, Muyiwa Ademola and Bimbo Oshin, rallied support for the actor and appealed to Nigerians with recommendations for alternative medical assistance to come forward.
Meanwhile, actress Toyosi Adesanya disclosed on Friday that Solomon Adeola, senator representing Ogun West, had helped connect Hassan with top cancer specialists.
