NOLLYWOOD MOURNS AS VETERAN ACTOR TAIWO HASSAN ‘OGOGO’ DIES AFTER CANCER BATTLE

NOLLYWOOD MOURNS AS VETERAN ACTOR TAIWO HASSAN ‘OGOGO’ DIES AFTER CANCER BATTLE

Popular Nollywood actor and veteran Yoruba film star, Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, has died after a prolonged battle with stage-four cancer.

The actor’s death was confirmed by multiple sources, including Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood, who announced the development on social media.

“Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is dead. He finally lost the battle of life,” Oloketuyi wrote.

Ogogo’s daughter, Kaira Taiwo, was also seen in tears during an Instagram Live session on Sunday, where she struggled to come to terms with her father’s death.

Veteran actor and filmmaker Saheed Balogun also paid tribute to Ogogo, describing his death as deeply painful.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. You can rest now my brother Taiwo Hassan Ogogo. May Almighty Allah guide you through Aljannah. This is truly painful,” Balogun wrote on Instagram.

Ogogo’s death came just days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed publicly for medical assistance for their father, who had been battling stage-four cancer.

On Monday, August 17, 2026, the sisters took to social media to seek medical advice and support, revealing the severity of the actor’s condition.

Kaira disclosed that doctors had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his deteriorating health.

The family subsequently explored alternative treatment options, including specialised medical procedures and traditional remedies, in a desperate effort to save the veteran actor.

Ogogo was one of the most recognisable figures in Nigeria’s Yoruba-language film industry, earning widespread acclaim for his performances and decades-long contribution to Nollywood.

His death has triggered an outpouring of grief among colleagues, fans and industry stakeholders, who have continued to pay tribute to the veteran actor and celebrate his enduring legacy in Nigerian cinema.
