Chris Brown, American singer, has pleaded guilty to a charge of affray stemming from an altercation at a London nightclub in February 2023.
Brown, 37, and his vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, 40, entered their guilty pleas on Friday at Southwark crown court.
The charge relates to an incident at Tape nightclub, where prosecutors said the pair used or threatened unlawful violence that would cause a person of reasonable firmness to fear for their safety.
Brown was initially arrested in May and later charged with attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against music producer Abraham Diaw.
Both Brown and Akinlolu had previously denied those charges and were scheduled to stand trial in October.
However, prosecutor Heidi Stonecliffe told the court that the more serious charges would no longer proceed to trial following the guilty pleas to affray.
Tony Baumgartner, the presiding judge, granted bail for both men, with sentencing scheduled for October 26.
The offense of affray carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison. Baumgartner stated that “all options” remain open for sentencing.
In a statement, Claire Campbell of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) described the incident as “a vicious and unprovoked attack” in which Brown allegedly struck the victim twice on the head with a glass bottle.
She added that the CPS would continue to work with police and other criminal justice agencies to ensure that “no one is above the law”.
Prosecutors had alleged that Brown launched an unprovoked attack on Diaw with a tequila bottle, after which the singer and Akinlolu continued to assault him as he attempted to flee.
