Chelsea Captain Reece James Signs Massive New Deal Worth £250k Weekly

Reece James has pledged his long-term future to Chelsea F.C. after signing a fresh six-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032.

The 26-year-old England international, who rose through Chelsea’s academy ranks, made his senior debut in September 2019 and has since established himself as one of the club’s most influential players. His previous deal was scheduled to run until 2028, but the club moved quickly to extend his stay.

According to reports from The Athletic, the new contract keeps the same incentive-based structure that rewards both individual performance and team success. James is already Chelsea’s top earner, reportedly taking home around £250,000 per week.

Since breaking into the first team, James has made 225 appearances for Chelsea and remains a key figure this season, starting 19 of the club’s 26 matches in the Premier League.

His earlier contract extension came shortly after the club’s takeover in 2022 by Todd Boehly and investment firm Clearlake Capital.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, James has won several major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League in 2021, the UEFA Super Cup that same year, and both the UEFA Europa Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025. He was also named Chelsea captain three years ago.

The defender has, however, battled several injury setbacks in recent seasons and underwent surgery in December 2023 to fix a recurring hamstring problem.

Despite those challenges, James has continued to impress with his versatility, playing both as a full-back and in midfield. His leadership qualities have also earned praise after earlier criticism during the tenure of former head coach Enzo Maresca.

At international level, James is focused on cementing his place in the England national football team squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, after missing the previous two tournaments due to injuries.

He returned to international duty in early 2025 following a two-year absence and most recently featured in England’s 2-0 victory over Serbia national football team at Wembley Stadium in November.
