FIBA QUALIFIERS: D’TIGRESS RALLY PAST PHILIPPINES WITH 101–84 VICTORY

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D'Tigress, staged an impressive comeback to defeat the Philippines women's national basketball team 101–84 in their third match at the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament on Saturday.

The African champions entered the game looking to bounce back after suffering a 77–60 defeat to Colombia women's national basketball team in their previous outing on Thursday.

Nigeria began the match slowly, allowing the Philippines to claim the opening quarter 25–21. The Southeast Asian side maintained their momentum and went into halftime with a comfortable 51–42 lead.

However, D’Tigress returned from the break with renewed intensity. The Nigerian side dominated the third quarter, outscoring their opponents 34–21 to wipe out the deficit and take control of the contest.

Led by head coach Rena Wakama, the team sealed the win with a commanding performance in the final quarter, winning it 25–12 and surpassing the 100-point mark in style.

D’Tigress will next face France women's national basketball team on Sunday before concluding their campaign against the Germany women's national basketball team on Monday.
