The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has assured that the Labour Party (LP) will provide a fair and transparent platform for all aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Thursday in Abuja after observing the inaugural meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), Otti emphasized that the party’s presidential ticket is open to all qualified members.
He stated that any aspirant who meets the party’s requirements—including membership and financial obligations—will be given an equal opportunity to contest.
“If you meet the requirements of the party and you want to run, we will give you a ticket. Democracy does not stop anybody who wants to contest. It is the people who will decide who leads them,” Otti said.
The governor expressed confidence in the party’s new leadership, which emerged from its recent national convention, noting that it has the capacity to reposition the party.
He congratulated the National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, and members of the 13-member NWC, adding that the strong turnout at the meeting reflected unity and commitment within the party.
Otti also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen internal processes, including primaries and voting systems, to ensure credible elections.
Addressing concerns about internal divisions, he pointed to the broad participation at the convention—featuring over 25 state chairmen, including members of previous leadership factions—as a sign that the party is gradually resolving its challenges and consolidating unity.
